About AudioCutlet
AudioCutlet is a small audio editor for the jobs that do not deserve a full workstation: cutting a chorus out of a song, trimming the dead air at the start of a voice memo, splitting a long recording into parts, adding fades so a clip does not click, or making three clips equally loud before they go into the same episode. You open a file, work on the waveform, and download a WAV or MP3. That is the whole product.
It runs entirely in the browser. Decoding uses the Web Audio API that ships in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari; edits are plain arithmetic on the decoded samples; the WAV writer is a few dozen lines of our own code, and the MP3 encoder is LAME compiled to JavaScript. There is no upload step because there is no server to upload to. We do not run analytics and the site sets no cookies beyond your language and theme choice, which stay in your browser's local storage.
It is built and maintained by Interhive OÜ, a small studio in Tallinn that makes tiny, dependable web tools.
What it does
- Decoding
MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG and FLAC through the browser's own decoders. Anything your browser can play, the editor can open.
- Editing
Trim, cut, split, reverse, fade in and out, gain, peak or RMS normalization, silence removal and mono/stereo conversion, with undo and redo.
- Export
WAV at 16 or 24 bits written by the editor itself; MP3 at 128, 192 or 320 kbps through the LAME encoder; segments as separate files or one ZIP.
- Keyboard
Space, I, O, S, Delete, [ and ], plus zoom and nudge keys. Press ? anywhere on the site to see the full list.
Honest limits
- Export is WAV or MP3 only. There is no M4A, OGG or FLAC writer in the browser, so a lossless master should be saved as WAV.
- Loudness normalization uses RMS, not a full ITU-R BS.1770 LUFS measurement. It gets clips within about a decibel of each other, which is what most people need.
- Memory is the limit on length: about 10 MB per minute of decoded stereo, so an hour-long recording needs roughly 600 MB free.
